SAN NICOLA DI BARI 2008

Anche quest'anno abbiamo onorato il patrono, con l'aiuto di MATILDA, MASSIMO , ELENA E ANDREA, che si sono dimostrati dei degni assistenti.

We loved to street art from the very start,working like graffiti writers and muralists
That was 1995…Being in front of a 15 meters wall eventually helped us to "think it big"and be confident with wide surfaces...
We took a painting degree in The Art Academy in Bari,2003.
Since the following year we started to perform on the street, working in our hometown in the Christmas and Easter period and in Patronal feasts around Puglia during the summer.
We always interpret the popular iconology with a touch of personal creativity, surrounding the image of the patron(may be the Virgin or San Nicola,etc.)with an oval frame,eventually filled with little angels all around…
We challenge rain, Mistral wind and all the disadvantages of being “unknown angels of the feast”,
to take alive a tradition that still makes southern people proud to be involved in…
SEE YOU ON THE STREET!

La strada. L’odore dell’asfalto.
Da dove viene la smania di insistere in questo gioco?
L’odore dell’asfalto l’avevo dimenticato, perché solo da bambini si sta sdraiati in strada e lo si sente
Non è una puzza quella della strada, troppe puzze vi sono immischiate…
Non è un profumo ma mi piace, perché è l’odore dei passi.

Camminiamo su questa terra stesa come un sudario sul cuore torbido della pianura
e infiliamo le viscere del paese in festa, nella controra di provincia .
Sotto le luminarie ancora spente, tra gli ambulanti intenti a preparare merci di quart’ordine,
nei crocicchi di vecchi davanti agli usci, una vaga speranza aleggia …
Prima che la festa si consumi, ancora le vie son piene di questa vaga (e vana?) speranza,
la sensazione di assistere e partecipare a una felicità annunciata.

We look for the right place, rush for the right pace,
Bound for unknown glory.

Meglio un glorioso anonimato che una gloria anonima.

A Ferrandina e Galatina, Gioia e Santeramo in colle
ed ogni ameno borgo della terra di Bari
passiamo come l’ombra delle nuvole in un un giorno di sole,
quando la canicola spegne anche le carcasse sulla strada.
con alacre desiderio scaviamo l’asfalto, per rivelarei colori dimenticati.
S.Rocco, la Santissima Vergine dei sette dolori,San Nicola,
rappresentano per noi una scorciatoia per la Storia, attraverso l’iconografia.
Raccogliamo la potenza di queste immagini e con impura mano la doniamo al popolo attonito,
al cielo e a noi stessi .
Forse, la speranza che almeno dentro,tutto non venga cancellato, rappresenta la mia concezione della Storia.
Il riconoscimento di un popolo in un iconografia dipinta ad uso e consumo dell’uomo della strada.
The street…the asphalt smell.
Where this craving desire to play that again comes from?
I forget that smell along the years (when you’re a kid you always have it around )
Too many stinks are mixed in the smell to be a bad one
It’s not a scent but I like it ,in the end it’s the smell of people’s steps.

We walk on this land , stretched out like a shroud on the turbid heart of the plain
and we enter the limbs of the little town’s feast before the celebration
COLOURED GHOSTS WALKING IN THE SIESTA TIME .
A vain hope flutters under the illuminations of the square,
among the street sellers preparing their stuff for the fair and the people sitting out of the doorsteps:
The sweat sensation to watch and join a foreknown happiness.
WE LOOK FOR THE RIGHT PLACE , RUSH FOR THE RIGHT PACE
BOUND FOR UNKNOWN GLORY.

inFerrandina ,Acquaviva, Gioia,Santeramo in colle
and in every fairy little town around Bari
We pass like the shade of the clouds in the middle of a sunny day
when the heat burns off the crocks on the road.
With longing passion we dig out the ASPHALT his old forgotten colours…
S.Rocco,La Santissima Vergine dei sette dolori,San Nicola
Are a sort of shortcut to history for us.
With impure hands we take the power of this icons to give it back to the public ,
the sky and to us, of course…
Maybe the hope that something lingers on inside and shall never be wiped out
makes out our concept of history:
The self consciousness of a community joining around an icon
painted for common people’s appreciation.
